Opening Day 2010 - 2011

Opening day and look who makes the picture, Burke. I missed it today but will arrive on Sunday. Reports that I have heard was it was a great first day, better then last year. Stats: 30" base and 51" total for the season so far.

Great fast cruiser day on the slopes, it was nice after powder for the last two weeks! Bill and Marv soak up some rays on the beach. More snow coming on Thursday and the weekend, so they say. Today's stats: 88" base, 264" total for the season

Finally, much needed storms arrive!

Sorry, no pictures. My camera has been in my pocket and forgotten while skiing pow the last couple of days. Will try to take some the next couple of days because more snow in the forecast Wed - Sun, yippee!! According to NOAA: Fast moving cold front from the south late Thursday night and Friday morning....with significant orographic potential ramping up Friday Night through Sunday morning. Best bet for significant snow accumulations during the late Friday through Sunday morning time frame. Stats as of today: 59" base, 181" season

A Week of Spring!

We have had a wonderful week of spring, but our precious snow is melting fast and we need some fresh stuff. The cruising has been fast; hard in the morning and slushy in the afternoon. Big snow in the forecast starting tonight and more all next week. We'll keep our fingers crossed. Only 20 days left, stats today: base 86", season 401"

20" Powder in 24 hours, Honeycomb Bottomless!

Dorrie, Crazy George and Ron get back in lower Crystal Point. It's deep and bottomless and CG goes for it. It's steeper and deeper then it looks, but CG does a little flip flop. Who do we see, Jay M and his long sticks right behind us. Awesome stuff and there is more on the way in the next few days. Mountain Stats: 92" base, 296" season.

Glorious days are upon us!

Glorious days are upon us! With a lucky 13" mid mountain new snow the last few days it just keeps coming. The morning crew stops for now what is a tradition, our morning 10:00 am juice break. Just enough to warm our insides and get us back out on the mountain to have more fun. Today stats: 43" mid base, 91" for the season and lots of snow in the forecast for the next 10 days (7 of the 10). Honeycomb opened today! Remember, there are a lot of days left in the season before you go out and get all jiggy to soon... I did...

Brig's Birthday Party #82

Thanks to Tony & Barb from CA for providing the pictures this year for Brig's Birthday Bash. Great eats and deserts made there appearance again. We had a small problem in the canyon with a truck crash that closed the canyon for a bit so Crazy George did not get home to his bride on time, but she has heard worse excuses before! Happy Birthday Brig and we hope you keep those exercises up so we can see you ski before the season end. Solitude stats as of today: 124" base and 448" for the season.

Tailgate Sundays Continue

So tailgate Sundays continue with great food and friends. These photos are from 2/10 and 2/17. The great skiing continues too; more snow and a few blue bird days as well. We should have a break from the storms next week. Also, presidents day week was busy, so let's say goodbye to all those tourists so we can get back down to business Solitude mountain stats as of today: 115" base and 404" of season snowfall. Can you say "we are blessed" Many moose are down in the canyon feeding so watch out for them.

Powder Day! 110" Base 303" Season Snowfall

Damn, it just keeps coming fellow fog's! The first pic of the slideshow was CG shoving the beach on Tueday (a rare sunny day) and then we hit the slopes on Wednesday with another big snow storm. 17" overnight but that was at 7:00 am this morning. The canyon was closed until 11:15 am due to slides again and it snowed the whole time. The powder was deep, I would say between 20" to 28" when we started today. You had to do steep to get moving and tracks were to be made everywhere. Today, we hit the 110" base mark, 303" snowfall for the season and we are just somewhere half way through the season. The forecast has more snow everyday this week and the extended forecast shows more next week. Wow, can you say it's good to be a local skiier! I'll try to make some shots tomorrow in Honeycomb if it is open, I can't wait.

... And the Snow Continues!

Storm after storm, it just keeps coming. Now, none of us our complaining mind you... Today resort stats: base 89", season total 227". Next few days should see some clearing and sun, but as you know with Solitude, there will still be places of powder to find until the next storm. Another glorious day for all of us. Here is what the SL Trib had to say today: "Weeks of pounding snowstorms have helped quench a thirsty Utah, which may offset last summer's depletion of water in record-setting temperatures. Winter storms have brought the state's total snowpack to 115 percent of average, which is unusual because drier conditions had been expected for winter, according to the National Weather Service. The region is currently in a La Niña year, meaning that waters in the eastern Pacific Ocean are cooler. That typically translates to drier conditions across the southwest - and in Southern Utah. To the north, however, the state typically sees above average snowpacks. "It's definitely made improvements," National Weather Service Meteorologist Monica Traphagan said of the recent snowfall. "December was the fourth wettest [on record]. That's going to help the snowpack. We are in much better shape than we were in last year."

Two More Days of Powder

Another great powder day at Solitude. When we arrived this morning, there was a few inches of powder and snowing lightly, by 10:00am is was snowing in full force. Mid mountain report was 11". I know up on Summit there was at least 18" to play in. As of today, Solitude reports: 72" base with a season total of 172". Let it rock in Jan and Feb...
