Here is what the SL Trib had to say today: "Weeks of pounding snowstorms have helped quench a thirsty Utah, which may offset last summer's depletion of water in record-setting temperatures. Winter storms have brought the state's total snowpack to 115 percent of average, which is unusual because drier conditions had been expected for winter, according to the National Weather Service. The region is currently in a La Niña year, meaning that waters in the eastern Pacific Ocean are cooler. That typically translates to drier conditions across the southwest - and in Southern Utah. To the north, however, the state typically sees above average snowpacks. "It's definitely made improvements," National Weather Service Meteorologist Monica Traphagan said of the recent snowfall. "December was the fourth wettest [on record]. That's going to help the snowpack. We are in much better shape than we were in last year."
