92" from last weeks storms!

We racked up 92" of snow in last weeks storms. I for one I'm anxious to get back into honeycomb canyon this morning. West face is open and maybe the east face will open tomorrow. Today is also Australian Day, Karl and Mary will be hosting a bash at the end of the lot. Bring your legs, appetites and ski you there!

Here's what may happen this weekend!

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS: ADDITIONAL ACCUMULATIONS OF 1 TO 3 FEET
THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING...WITH THE HIGHER TOTALS ON THE WESTERN
FACING SLOPES INCLUDING THE UPPER COTTONWOODS.

* TIMING: SNOW SHOWERS...HEAVY AT TIMES...WILL CONTINUE THROUGH
TONIGHT. THE HEAVIEST SNOWFALL IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP LATE
TONIGHT AND CONTINUE THROUGHOUT SATURDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHT...
PARTICULARLY ACROSS WESTERN FACING SLOPES. SNOW WILL TAPER OFF
SUNDAY MORNING.

15" of pow this morning and it just kept coming down. Thick and heavy will make our little mountain all good. Powderhorn II opened today and it was a whole new ride up the hill. I would say by the time we were done, there was at least 32" of fresh snow. The coming weeks will be a whole new adventure. LIG

Powder Day

So, the overnight report says, 11". That is at 6:00 am, it is snowing at least 1" per hour. We hit the chair at 9:00 am and the base is at least 14". Top: knee deep and face shots galore. Best day so far... We have a over 100" base as of today.

After a few days of very wet snow, temperatures get colder and the powder gets lighter. About 13" total today with more coming tonight. We hope it is the start of something new.

Just when you think the powder days are gone!

So, Wednesday - The worst flat light day I can remember, groomers are rutty and gouged, everything else, just hard a rock, almost everyone goes home early, some come but don't even ski. Thursday - 4" of dust on crust, a pleasant day from the day before, the 4" seemed to take care of the groomers, softer and better light, snowing wet snow, it's odd how so little can make you so happy. Friday - bang, 12" of powder, face shots, every run just seems to be giving more and more. The sun was out for the very first run of the day. Everyone smiling and having one good old time. You can hear laughter all over the mountain, snow is coming down fast and piling up. Just look at this Aussie, can you say happy!

A Sunny Day Between Powder Days

A day between storms: Powder day on the 30th, sun on the 31st and "the best day" of season so far on Feb 1, 2008. These pics where taken from the top of powderhorn between storms. Feb 1 was an awesome day, light and fluffy 24+, simply the best stuff and what we are famous for. Sorry, there are no pics from that day, but everyone was so deep and having so much fun, I just forgot to take pictures. 24 hour forecast for Sun: 12 - 24 more inches...

Powder Day! 110" Base 303" Season Snowfall

Damn, it just keeps coming fellow fog's! The first pic of the slideshow was CG shoving the beach on Tueday (a rare sunny day) and then we hit the slopes on Wednesday with another big snow storm. 17" overnight but that was at 7:00 am this morning. The canyon was closed until 11:15 am due to slides again and it snowed the whole time. The powder was deep, I would say between 20" to 28" when we started today. You had to do steep to get moving and tracks were to be made everywhere. Today, we hit the 110" base mark, 303" snowfall for the season and we are just somewhere half way through the season. The forecast has more snow everyday this week and the extended forecast shows more next week. Wow, can you say it's good to be a local skiier! I'll try to make some shots tomorrow in Honeycomb if it is open, I can't wait.

Awesome Powder Day!

So we start the day with Big Cottonwood canyon closed due to a couple of slides. Stinky in his Audi and the Morton Salt guy in his Brat are waiting in line. Ron and Travis are waiting in the lot, John is at home just waiting for a call to let him know the canyon is open. At 10:10 am it happens and we are a go. 3 hours later, smiling and grinning from ear to ear after riding in 15 - 20 inches of untracked fresh powder we are back to the lot to tailgate and discuss our days adventures. Awesome stuff, we all look forward to tomorrow to do it all over again.

Two More Days of Powder

Another great powder day at Solitude. When we arrived this morning, there was a few inches of powder and snowing lightly, by 10:00am is was snowing in full force. Mid mountain report was 11". I know up on Summit there was at least 18" to play in. As of today, Solitude reports: 72" base with a season total of 172". Let it rock in Jan and Feb...

3 Days of Powder!

Sorry for the late entry and no pictures, we have had 3 days of snow and I have been busy enjoying it! I guess it is safe to say 10” per day for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. There are those deeper pockets that seem to be much more. All lifts are open including Honeycomb. You can finally venture out without too much concern and life is good once again. We have been hanging out in the brown bag room, laying low. Next week is Christmas vacation and the blog entry’s will be few. I’ll try to take some pictures tomorrow, catch you then. Waa… my thighs and knees are sore and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
