Bill celebrated his 88th birthday today with a few friends at Gardner Village. Bill is a inspiration for all of us, keep showing us your stuff, stud! I wished that I could of made it, but work kept me at home this morning. Thanks to Linda for taking the photos.

Great fast cruiser day on the slopes, it was nice after powder for the last two weeks! Bill and Marv soak up some rays on the beach. More snow coming on Thursday and the weekend, so they say. Today's stats: 88" base, 264" total for the season

The Fog's where out in full force today. Welcome back to Duane, Dorrie, John and Papa Roach! Great conditions for mostly man made snow, with a little fresh on top. It felt sooo good to cruise the bowl down to lower sundancer. Parking is now available down by Eagle and we can say goodbye to Moonbeam for a while. More vertical, more friends and more fun...

Another Blue Bird Day

Another great day at Solitude. Lot's of snow has piled up over the last 12 days. Today's stats are mid mountain 60" base with 159" total snowfall so far this season. Everything is open with the exception of Sol/Bright cut over. A few rocks here and there back in Honeycomb but the feeling is there. With a few more storms and a few less people (yes, it's been busy over the holidays) over the next few weeks, we are in business. We are also pleased to see Bill back on the mountain, welcome back FOG.

Spring Like Days!

If we did not know better, it could be April 1, spring like conditions!! Plenty of sunshine, groomed runs with a little crust but very fast. All we need now is some more snow. Update on BK: he is doing well, has some swelling in his knee, but won't go to the doctor and he is up and working in his garden. We have been talking with him daily from the beach. He'll will be back asap, that's the real Iron Man. All quads are still open with limited runs, but overall from last year, much better opening.

Opening Day 2008

Great opening day, sunny skies, 4 lifts open and almost spring like conditions. The two new lifts Apex Express and Moonbeam Express are great. They whisk you up the mountain in less then 4 minutes. It seems like you just get on as you speed to the top and slow down at just the right moment to get off. There are some really icy spots that are tricky, on a unhappy note, Bill took a fall today on some pure ice (in the bowl) and received a sled ride down. From early reports, it hopefully sounds like there is nothing broken and we'll know more tomorrow. Our thoughts are with him for a speedy recovery!

Fat Tuesday

Mardi Gras (French for "Fat Tuesday") is the day before Ash Wednesday, and is also called "Shrove Tuesday" or "Pancake Day". Mardi Gras is the final day of Carnival the three day period preceding the beginning of Lent, the Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday immediately before Ash Wenesday. The entire three day period has now come to be known in many areas as Mardi Gras, so as it is elsewhere, it is also here with the Fog at Solitude. Beautiful day, lots of snow, and a sunny day just for us.

Welcome Back Mr Sun

We saw the first day of sun today that I can remember for quite sometime, welcome back. After the holiday it was nice to see sun, no people and the beach just the way we remembered it. Honeycomb was still in good shape and many of us made our laps back there today looking for more powder from Sunday. We can be such SL,UT powder hounds!

Brisk Tailgate Wednesday

Today's high was supposed to be around 7 degrees! I'm not sure what the temps where today, but whoa, it was cold. Brighton reported a record low of -2 degrees. But, nothing like some great friends and some good warm goodies to finish out our day. Warm Chicago Dogs and some Crazy George spiked cider did just the trick to take the edge off of the cold temperatures. We said goodbye to Tony and Barb today from California, hopefully they will be back for Brigs birthday. Oh yeah, Linda gave Bill a new ruskie hat today, dig it!

Just like the old days!

Remember this spot? For now, just keep cool, use some restraint and enjoy. Don't be an Eddie Haskel... Be like Wally and the Beaver, they never meant to get into trouble.

All Smiles Today at Solitude

All smiles today at the beach. It' been a great last 4 days. Snow on Friday and then a "yard", some call it 36" on Sat with a follow-up few inches after that. All lift's are open with the exception of Honeycomb which is rumored to be the next few days (there is plenty of powder back there). More snow is in the forecast towards the end of the week. Life's a beach for these two FOGS, but someone has to do it.

Another nice day with much cooler temps. Solitude is now blowing snow full time. Fleet Street is rumored to be the next opening run from the top of Apex. Thanksgiving weekend is upon us, hopefully more resorts will open. Ski some runs, eat some turkey and be happy. Coming this weekend, the Crazy George Cam...

Our First Snowy Luncheon

Our first snowy luncheon of the season! John had to call me today to get me out of the office to enjoy the weather and I'm glad he did! It made me think how close we are to skiing again.

John, Linda, Bill, Scott and Eric's hiding in there somewhere. It was much colder today and huddling back in Moonbeam cove was a much welcome change. Linda made us a yummy Ruben casserole dish. Even Stinky made it up today, but somehow he eluded the pictures this time around. We'll get you next time John.

Planting the Garlic for next season

We take the time today to plant next years harvest of garlic in the Keller Garden. Here Bernie gets close instruction on the proper way to use a tiller. Bill points him in the right direction. It's critical, one wrong move and the whole garlic crop could be ruined!

Scott, Bill and Ron assume the position for planting the garlic in the just the right way: 6 rows, each garlic exactly 6" apart. Bill gave me directions for measuring the 6" , I told him that method would actually put them at 8" apart...

Harvest Party 07

Harvest party 07, our host Bill along with John and his wife, Gladys. Great turnout with many fog guests along with our Solitude friends. We where treated to a buffet of delicious food and drink. A cool night with a great rain storm to make the evening fresh, a very enjoyable evening to start the beginning of fall with. Check out those great skis in the foreground. I didn't get a chance to ask Bill if he had skied on everyone of them or not. I'm sure he would of told me "well, hell yes"

Keller's Cornucopia

How do you stay fit during the summer months when there are no slopes to be conquer? You stay in the fitness center like these fogs. Do they look serious or what? Those are some serious veggies you have there boys...

Fall Lunch Pesto Pasta Spectacular

Another fine luncheon for the fogs today on top of the Moonbeam center. John made up some great pesto pasta made from Bill's garden (picked fresh yesterday) and cooked it on the spot. Ron rounded it out with some Italian sausages and we also had the usual snacks. It just dosen't get any better, blue skys, cool air and great company. We chated about the first snow, Karl predicted the 23rd, we'll keep our fingers crossed.
