A Summer Bike Ride - Tour of New Lifts

Kirsten and yours truly took a little bike ride today. We start on the Summit chairlift, ride over to Summit and then traverse just under the new Moonbeam Express. As you can see there is a lot of new grading being done just under the top of the lift. We stop by the "beach" for a quick one, go under and around Eagle Express and then descend back down toward the village with the new Apex Express into full view. Cool stuff... can't wait to ride it...

Moonbeam Express Progress

Today at the Fog Luncheon we decided that we needed to check and supervise the Moonbeam Express progress. Scott, Ron and CG made damn sure that the lift was safe all around. George and Scott stress tested the upper rollers and assembly as well as the tires. We are glad to report that we approve of all the progress and operations so far. Hey, what else would you expect from such a fine crew of fogs, safety first...

Two New Lifts for Solitude 08-09 Season

Well, the rumors we heard were true, Solitude is already working on two new upgrades to their current lifts: Apex and Moonbeam, both being replaced with high speed quads. You can find the info here in the Solitude Blog. This picture was taken on April 24th!

LDS Party 2008 Slideshow

Another year goes by... but it was a memorable one for me as I know it was for many others. This entry will be somewhat under construction for the next few days, so please check back. I asked many of you for your thoughts this year, so far I have received these. If you would like, please email me at blogmaster@solitudefog.com and I'll include yours.

Linda G from SLC, UT says: I can't believe I lived in Colorado for so long when the skiing in Utah is this great. You are welcome to quote me on that! See you at a Wednesday's luncheons, have a great party.

Travis C from SLC, UT says: I would just like to say thanks to you guys for all the ski lessons this season. I HAD A BLAST! Snowboard what snowboard? The crashing FOG in training.

Karl W from SLC, UT says: We have been spoilt rotten by Mother Nature this season, Thursday nights 5 inches has given us a season total of 569 inches. Since December 6th, when the 'real' skiing started with a 44 inch storm, I have had 106 days on my on my powder skis and only 11 on my groomer skis, the most consistent season ever. Thank you

Crazy G from SLC, UT says: I've been a pass holder at solitude for the past 25 years and I don't ever remember a season like this one. The only thing that compares to how great the season was is how big the smiles are from all our Friends are--we at solitude "R" blessed ! (xxx days 'till next season, hehe see below) peace & love

Ron H from SLC, UT says: As your blogmaster I really enjoyed doing the blog this year and what a season to write about. I logged 94 days, over 1.2m vertical and had such a great time, not only skiing but with all the people that I had the opportunity to ski with. It is great to be with those that have the same passion. Discover new areas on the resort, do it fast, do it deep, share a moment, a smile, a laugh, and then to find a place where we can gather and be with friends. There is only one thing that would make it better, to be able to do it again next year with all the same people and hopefully some new ones too. Oh, throw in some great snow too...Thanks, it was awesome!

More to come....

One Week Left!

Only one week left until the LDS party and this was our last Sunday tailgate as well. You can see Paco doing his curry beef taco here along with some of the gang. Pretty nice day for the April 6th, a little dust on crust but the crust was not bad. Forecast for the week is more snow. That's a nice shirt you have there Uncle George...

Easter Sunday with the Bunny

So there we are making our first lap at 9:00 am and who do we run into? The Easter Bunny. I can't think about a nicer way to spend Easter Sunday then skiing with friends, meeting this cute bunny and enjoying a bluebird day. Great spring conditions this morning and the rest of the day.

Sunday Tailgate - St Patricks Day

How do you describe another day in paradise? 4" of new powder to bottomless powder back in honeycomb. Lots of green today in honor of St Patrick, a great tailgate with thanks to John E for a contribution of corn beef (Ruben sandwiches) and with a little help from his friends, goodies of drink and merriment. We even had spots of sunshine, who else could be so lucky? Let the green flow...

Just when you think the powder days are gone!

So, Wednesday - The worst flat light day I can remember, groomers are rutty and gouged, everything else, just hard a rock, almost everyone goes home early, some come but don't even ski. Thursday - 4" of dust on crust, a pleasant day from the day before, the 4" seemed to take care of the groomers, softer and better light, snowing wet snow, it's odd how so little can make you so happy. Friday - bang, 12" of powder, face shots, every run just seems to be giving more and more. The sun was out for the very first run of the day. Everyone smiling and having one good old time. You can hear laughter all over the mountain, snow is coming down fast and piling up. Just look at this Aussie, can you say happy!

St Patrick's Day

This coming Monday will be St Patrick's Day but we'll be celebrating it on our tailgate Sunday the day before. We have plenty of great food planned in the Irish tradition, so put on your best green and we'll see you there on Sunday. We have less then 30 days left!

Another Tailgate Sunday

Another great tailgate Sunday, I think this might of been one of the largest turnouts we have had. Lot's of friends stopped by to spread the love today. Great bluebird day... Spring is just around the corner.
